CE Requirements for Nursing Licenses

Every two years, the Oregon Nursing Board requires nurses to renew their licenses. (There are no nursing CEU contact hours needed to renew Oregon RN, LPN, or APRN licenses other than the Pain Management requirement.)

Mandated State Courses

Oregon law requires all licensed nurses to take seven hours of pain management continuing education. This is a one-time requirement.

One hour must be a course provided by the Oregon Pain Management Commission

Six additional hours will fulfill the requirement:

License Expiration and Renewal

Registered Nurse Licenses:

Oregon RN licenses renew at midnight the day before the nurse's birthday in even-numbered years for nurses born in even-numbered years, and in odd-numbered years for nurses born in odd-numbered years.


Licensed Practical Nurse Licenses:

Oregon LPN licenses renew at midnight the day before the nurse's birthday in even-numbered years for nurses born in even-numbered years, and in odd-numbered years for nurses born in odd-numbered years.


Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licenses:

Oregon APRN licenses renew at midnight the day before the nurse's birthday in even-numbered years for even-numbered years, and in odd-numbered years for nurses born in odd-numbered years.
